Outdoor play products – laser cutting for learning environments
We are often asked how laser cutting can be used in a play or educational setting, and our clients are always surprised at the variety of products we can supply! Some of our most popular educational products include natural wooden discs, upon which we engrave the alphabet, or numbers. We are able to engrave both sides – making the discs into a learning/phonics experience, with a letter on one side, and a simple image on the other. Stones and pebbles are another popular learning tool for the outdoor environment.
We are able to etch stones with single letters or words, and these are then used in a variety of outdoor games. They can be spread throughout the outdoor environment, with children tasked with retrieving them, or simply finding them (depending on the educational goal/play scenario). Another popular game is for children to close their eyes and simply feel the etched surface, discovering literacy and numeracy in a whole new way.
The value of combining tactile elements into educational play is indisputable: children remember more, understand better, and become more involved with their surroundings. Often a child is unaware that they are in a learning situation, they are simply tracing outlines with their fingers and absorbing information organically.
